Touge.
Just mentioning the word will call upon us an undescribable feeling.
The rush. The adrenalin flowing.
The strategy. The split second decisions.
The moments.
But words is not enough.
Touge must be experienced in order to get intimate with.
The question is who does qualify to be a full fledge touge runner?
For us, it depends on one simple fact ~ how do you feel about going over 100 on a twisty and challenging G effect roadways?
If you felt that twisty roads are only for drivers in the past, go on, we respect your opinion. The door is that way.
But if you love cruising on the so called ‘old roadways’ , including some very interestingly twisty ones, then perhaps we are of the same thoughts. Perhaps for us, those twisties are no more than an extention of the straight roads, except that it was a little bit more enjoyable and not so boring such as the straight ones.
Then, do you have the guts to go full speed racing downhill? Now that’s another level though.
Last May during my visit to KL I take the the chance to meet a few touge friends, in order to experience myself the limit or level that they’ve achieved over their ‘play time’ at touges.
On 16 night I met with Toklah, Akat & Tat69. We sit down over 2 servings of satay samuri and have a nice lil’ chat, before we move on to hang out at toklah’s apartment. The topic as usual, ranging from cars and motorsports, to internet technologies that sucks.

kids don't do this at home. your parents might find out. better, don't do this at all..

Dead robot. Courtesy of tat and Akat ehee..
That night, feeling tired from earlier wedding day engagement, I’ve decided to spend the night at Akat’s apartment. Thanks akat for the invitation.
The next day, came the day that I’ve been waiting since the Team B visits to Sumpitan. Kultuih, for a change, arrived earlier before the time we set. It’s me and akat, groggy from our late night discussion last night that woke up late, and scrambling to make ourself presentable before going out to meet ‘Team B’ at the designated place.
It’s sunday, but the traffic is quite congested. Thus it’s like a mini wangan game for me to follow Kultuih and not getting left by him, since typical as most outsiders of KL I know nothing about the hi-ways and by-ways network around our beloved ibukota.
After half an hour driving (and 15 minutes late) we arrived at Gerai Makcik-X, the promised place for our meeting. Thank god there’s no word at all from PokDeng about our party being late.
Already waiting was Ariel, PokDeng and a sirius looking gentleman. Upon finding that the sirius gentleman is Milie who hails from Bota Kiri, I quickly launch a conversation in Bote dialect, asking him about his hometown. I used to lived there once, and boy I could swear that Bota girls are as sweet looking as freshly blooming rose, and with thorns also haha..

huh..I thought there was a westerner among us hehee..

breakfast with Norman Hakim 2

sirius looking chap!

silver lining..
Then not so long after, Jai, Reed and Burn (of Kansei’s fame) arrived individually. The quorum is filled, thus we roll on!
As prearranged before, I ride next to Reed while Akat with Ariel and Kultuih with Jai. Thus the adventure begins..
The first video is uphill through Genting Sempah old road. Being a typical Sunday, there’s loads of other recreational users at the same time, making our ride uphill more colourful and let’s admit, a bit dangerous.
But Reed’s driving skill really makes an impression on me. He calmly goes thru corners by narrow corners, with me lending a feet to press on a non-existing brake. It’s a wonder how he anticipate vehicles coming from the opposite. hmm..maybe this is a newbie question ahaa..?
We stop at the end of the old Genting Sempah road to light a few cigarettes…and to slow down our (my) raging heartbeat.
Then after that off we went for the next stage at Bukit Tinggi. Once again I shoot the video so let the video speak, before I make my next comment..

checkpoint at the foot of BT

now it's Jai's turn to act weird.

Perhaps it's just me, but is it Jai's way of walking always like that? Perhaps he was just exhausted after the long touge run?

Beautifully restored and upgraded EP70. Looking at that speciment, I'm proud to admit that I oso want one..

Reed, who really terrifies me with his crazy h1n1 driving skills. Aku respek gile kat ko bro!
Till today while I’m writing this, the one thing that I’m regret of is that I concentrated too much on shooting the uphill rides, that by the time we’re starting to go downhill, my videocam is already low on power while myself feeling dizzy and starts to see two Evos in front us instead of one.
Thus regrettably I didn’t, I couldn’t shoot the drive downhill from Bukit Tinggi to Genting Sempah, and what a regret it left me with.
If the drive uphill impressed me, the drive downhill is 4 times that, plus it terrifies me so much that I felt annoyed and ready to hang my steering wheel on the wall. Reed is so confident in his driving skill (and his car capability) that we went at more than 120km/h on the curve, downhill, only 1 meter to touch the motorcycle (also going crazy over the corner) ahead of us.
The Glanza slides beautifully that it really took my breath away with envy, since I myself can’t do it like him. And it’s true what Akat told me once, that Reed is one hell of a driver that can drive over one-twenty on the curve without we who ride shotgun with him feeling it.
That split second moments are like a full minute to me..replaying over and over in my head, like eternity.
God! What an experience…
Going downhill thru Genting Sempah old road also a very nice experience. Once more I experienced the power of Reed’s driving. And also once more I can see how skillful Burn is on the downhill track. Kudo’s for Burn, he realy burnt his tyres all the way down Genting Sempah. I feel sorry that we didn’t talk much that day..
To Reed, I publicly and openly am asking for a second ride, downhill, at both those places. This time with me holding the vidcam properly.
To the rest of you, Kansei’s Burn, Team B’s Ariel, Akat, Kultuih, Jai, Millie Sirius and not the least PokDeng, you are all da man! I realy enjoyed this trip. More over, somehow thru this experience, somewhere a door in my soul was opened. The door to FF hehee..
I’m trying to work this out.
Please click the link below to view the video through photobucket website.
It’s better this way since more people have acces to photobucket rather than youtube…for a while la.

Labour Day Touge Meet Up
Date: 1st May 2009 The Labour Day
Timeframe: 15:00hr ~ 19:00hr
Who’s who: Friends from EPMC ~ Ariel, Oreedo, Pok Deng, Kultuih, Ban & friends from Kedah & Penang. Also the usual suspects Sumpitan Crawlers & Friends ~ Minami, Romzie & Chicks.
Lokation: ‘Sumpitan’ Touge.
Our friend, sifu & mentor Ariel is to be blamed for this ‘carnival’. Or credited. Hehe..
Out of the blue, on 12th March 2009 there’s suddenly a new topic on epmc’s bulletin board, asking (and inviting friends) for a touge meet up on 1st May. This proposal was received enthusiastically by fellow forummers, especially by those who love challenging terrains.
Proven indeed our enthusiasm, for the topic gained 17 pages of discussion, on and off-topic, until D-Day arrives.
On our side, this brings excitement to us since it’s not an everyday event, to have friends from outside region visiting us..showing a few ‘touge tricks’ to us marhaens…
Thus, an arrangement for a touge meet up on Labour Day was made between 3 parties, Team Bukit hails from kL led by Ariel & Reed, Team Progressive from Penang & Kedah led by Ban The GT_Boy & Pakcik, and our team members and friends..all the way from Taiping and Kuale Kangsar…
And after days of planning and topic burnings on epmc forum, the day finally arrive upon us.
1st May 2009
09:00 hrs.
From 3 separate points on the globe, communication line runs hot. Coordinating, fine tuning our meeting place and time..so that friends are not mistaken as foe on the long and winding strip of Sumpitan Pass.
And All the while, the ‘chairman’ (ha ha) is busily buying groceries to prepare the bihun goreng for our gathering that evening.
13:00 hrs.
Final communication received from Ariel who’s cruising in his E3, with 3 other cars following. Ariel reports that they’re already arriving at Kuale Kangsar, The Royal Town Of Perak.
Burnner & Ban also reported that they’re on the way from Kulim, 6 cars in their group. They contacted Poklah who’s waiting at his parent in law’s house, orchestrating & coordinating the movements of fellow participants, while himself busily frying the bihun.
14:30 hrs.
Tension runs high. From the faces of Ban & his friends who came from Kedah and Penang, it seems that they can’t play the waiting game anymore. The slowly darkening sky didn’t help lessening the anticipation. Furthermore, for Ban, Man & Pakcik (who drive his Civic EK V-Tec), this is their second trip coming to sumpitan, after the first time failed due to some technical problems.
Thus led by Burnner in his souped up Camry, they went ahead to get their first taste of Sumpitan, leaving Poklah with his bihun to catch up later.
Approaching the meeting place on the way up the winding mountain pass, Ban suddenly took over leading the pack, leaving Burnner following behind at cruising speed. The peace of surrounding forest broken by roaring engines, 5 machines in all, blazing through the touge. But little did they know what awaits them at the other side of the mountain…
Approaching the end of the track, heavy rain falls upon them. After regrouping, Burnner took over leading to return back to the meeting place, a bit more slowly since the visibility is too low.
Then out of nowhere..despite the heavy rain, suddenly came a very fast ‘white colored Proton Wira look alike’ overtaking this motley group of drivers with no remorse. It came, and vanished from their eyesight in no time at all, making them forgot the bihun goreng that awaits them at the meeting place.
It was none other than Ariel and his E3, with his dynamic driving utilising all four tyres, riding Sumpitan Pass like it was his backyard.
Meanwhile on the other side of the mountain, Poklah is busy balancing polystrin containers of bihun goreng, sitting snugly on the passenger seat…running not so full throttle through treacherous road uphill to the meeting place.
Since it was raining heavily, we decided to drive down to Pekan Ijok to wait the weather. At Ijok, proper introduction between perticipants leads us for a friendly ’sepak raga bulatan’ game.
17:15 hrs.
The road is still quite wet, but it didn’t stop these tarmac warriors from enjoying the winding road of Sumpitan Pass.
Just a few minutes before 17:00 hours, our fellow sumpitan crawlers arrived from Taiping. After solat Asar, we went back up the mountain pass, with Poklah leading the way.
A few drivers stop at the meeting place (including Poklah and the bihuns), but the pace at that time was really set by Ariel and Reed (who drove his Corolla this time), both amazing drivers from Team Bukit EpMC. They were followed by several other drivers who only able to see their tail lights several seconds before they vanished.
Even from afar, we can hear the roaring of their engines going full throttle uphill. This really boils up Poklah’s blood but still, his skill is far inferior to them. So instead of driving, Poklah keeps himself busy mixing the drinks and readying the bihun goreng for distribution.
After nearly half an hour, Ariel & Reed arrived back. Apis EpMC who’s riding next to Ariel looks like a zombie, perhaps still reliving his terror going full speed next to Ariel, while Reed looks like he’s in ecstacy.
From them we received news that several cars already done their 360 degree routine, loosing traction while taking corners.
It was also reported that the road is still quite wet, meaning driving high speed is really dangerous.
A few other drivers also agreed that it felt like driving on ice, both set of tires can’t fully grip the road surface due to aqua-planing.
After terminating his share of the bihun goreng, Poklah braved himself to ask Ariel for a ride through the touge. Ariel had no problems at all. And it was hilariously potrayed in this video, with no censorship at all.
18:30 hrs.
It was already late. Despite the fun of meeting new and old friends, it was time to to return home.
All in all, the Labour Day Touge Meetup event was considered as very successfull. We can’t wait to repeat it at another time. So to fellow participants, please come visit us again.
As was said by Poklah, “Datang la lagi. Lain kali, mungkin tak begitu mudah untuk korang meninggalkan kami berkandang2!”
Cheers dude!

“We humans are created blessed, and burdened…with emotions”
Saturday
8th February 2009
22:00hr.
T’was a dark night, but for the full moon that shines lazily.
I’m in an emotional turmoil, groping blindly for any means to soothe my chaotic mind.
I got to find a way to let these feelings out.
The moon shines beautifully.
Something tugs at my wailing soul.
Alas! Sumpitan is calling me, with a promise to peace my mind.
10:20pm Filling the tank at Petronas Kamunting.
RM20 is enough, since at noon I filled RM20 already.
Talk to Am at Lenggong, using PTT..asking him to prepare for my arrival by 11:15pm at Selat Pagar RnR.
10:25pm I’m already on my way to Ijok.
The traffic is loose. Perhaps because it’s Saturday, night.
Perhaps those people who went out to Taiping for entertainment are not finished with their business yet.
Doesn’t matter, as long as I can sped my way to Ijok.
10:50pm Arrived at Ijok. No roadblock tonight.
By 10:52pm I’m already at the starting point.
Not much time to waste, since I promised to Am that I’ll be at Selat Pagar before 11:15pm.
10:55pm While I’m taking some photos, a few people from the local village precedes me going up the Sumpitan pass. They’re riding their cubchai, so I assume that they’re going into the forest, perhaps to shoot Ayam Hutan or some other activities that I can’t begin to guess.

From where I parked my car, I can see that most, if not all of their bikes, didn’t have their rear lights on. This pose a problem to me since I planned to go full throttle, to release my pent up feelings deep inside.

11:01pm The clock on my cd player is 5 minutes ahead of time!
My engine revs nicely.
Focusing my mind, I let the engine howl into the dark night.
About 1km up the mountain pass, about the same place we passed the wildlife I mentioned earlier in the last post, I met with the creature again. This time it was crossing the road from left to right while I’m exiting a high speed corner.
Luckily my Hella was on this time and I’m only going at 80, I braked and evaded the creature in question. The lucky fella also braked in time, and it safely returns to it’s starting position by the left side of the road shoulder, with one of it’s ‘hand’ showing me the ‘finger’, I imagine.
By this time my heart was beating nicely. Keeping in mind that there’s some people riding their ’stealth tuned bikes’ (no rear light, that is) in front of me, I slow down a little to about 70km/h.
But until I arrive at the peak, there’s no sign of those people whatsoever.
Thinking that maybe they already entered the jungle trek, I take it as a sign that finally I can use the mountain pass to my hearts content.
Refocusing my mind, I let the engine howl into the dark night, for the second time.
Going downhill, we went high speed with my right foot barely depressing the pedal.
The downhill to Lenggong is my favourite part.
Venting my frustrations, I really let loose that night.
Perhaps it was the advantage of going on a touge run alone.
I don’t have to look out for my teammates.
I’m solely concentrating on my lines, and the spot where my frontlight shines.
In terms of speed, perhaps this was the best of all my night touge runs.
But for one place where I went understeered (and nearly lost it all) the downhill went smoothly,
so smooth that all my worries in the world gone, along with the petrol and the rubbers that I burnt.
11:17pm Arriving at Selat Pagar, I saw that Am is missing from the scene.
I called Am again, asking where the hell is he. As we promised, he should already been waiting for me at he RnR, burning cigarette in hand.
He apologized in a bewildered tone that I was already waiting at the promised spot.
It seems that he didn’t think that I can make it as was promised.
Amused (because actually I was 2 minutes late from the ETA I fixed with him) I harrased him to come quickly, unless if he wants to drive alone through Sumpitan Pass back to Taiping.

12:50am, 9th February 2009. Return to Taiping.
After stopping to shoot some photos, with intents to show the environment at Sumpitan at night, we drive again, this time with Am leading.

Sumpitan is dark, even on a full moon nights...

He asked me himself that he wants to drive at the front, since he was afraid that I’ll leave him if I’m to lead. I agreed, so that I can observe his line driving uphill heading to Ijok.
I am quite surprised with Am, watching him driving.
Fumbling with my Nikon, for a while I didn’t expect Am to go fast. He said that he’s having a problem with his ride’s driveshaft. But suddenly he was speeding uphill, leaving me far behind.
Furious, I quickly put my camera in it’s carrying bag, and starts to chase Am.
From behind, I saw that even if his lines are beautifully executed, his shifting leaves much to be learned.
But I dunno, perhaps the 85′ Accord he’s driving was auto…
Still, that night I saw Am’s potential.
He also got balls, not titanium balls as Tat’s, but still…balls is balls.
Also, Am is what we called the ‘dry hearted’ type (excluding in regards of ghosts, if I may add).
That is why Atan have some reserves to teach Am about touge huhuu..
We arrived at the peak in no time.
But going downhill is another story. The sharp and unrelenting continuous S really slows Am down.
Not surprising, since in the beginning I also didn’t know how to get through those horrible curves in higher than average speed. His line goes hentam keromo, maybe because I’m following rather close behind.
But after passing the 2nd bridge, again Am drove like he’s having a vengeance. I tried to overtake him, so that I can slow him down a lil’ bit because there’s a wet corner in front of us. It’s raining season, at one place there’s water trickling down the mountain and puddling on the road, that’s why I have to slow him a bit.
It seems that I can’t overtake him, the road is quite narrow with hardened sands accumulating at the right hand side..so I slow down, give him the ‘light’ and pray that Am saw the place before going full speed into the wet corner. Thank god he heeds my warning. If not, this story is not going to stop any sooner heheh..

1:05am We stop again at the Kg Kelian Gunung junction (same place as my first pics) to take some photos, mainly to show the signboard. Then we drove silently, back to our own place.

In the morning I went to Atan’s place to share the story of last night.
Enjoying the young coconuts, he told me that one of the drivers from the last trip before my solo touge run saw a women standing by the roadside, deep in Sumpitan Pass in the middle of nowhere.
Well, that’s news to me. Seems that my luck was good so far..huhuu…
End.
*Following my near fatal understeer incident, Burnner and I decided to go back to Sumpitan this Sunday.
I intended to check summore details at the curves (that nearly hands me my resignation), which I missed in my 2 previous recce trip to Sumpitan for no particular reason.
Interested party can participate, but please leave us contact details before or at least on Saturday so we can make arrangements.
As for other readers, watch this blog closely to find more about Sumpitan.
Thanks.
Postscript:
About one month after that night, Am was offered a new job.He accepts, and now works and lives at Slim River. We hope that he’ll achieve whatever he wants to achieve, including a few new girlfriends there… Please don’t offer us any though..

Saturday
24th January 2009
23:00hr.
Venue: Giant Hypermarket, Taiping.
The night is still young.
The crowd is still lingering from one discussion group to another, talking, watching, listening, taking pictures…and even some doing their business~buying and selling.
All the while I’m communicating through PTT with Madperak at Pengkalan Hulu, some 160kms from Taiping.

Am & Sham

rest in 1 piece
One of the group can’t hold their patience anymore, revving their engine…urging us to conclude our TT that night. Then one of them starts doing wheelspin/burnout, on Giant Hyperstore’s property, followed by another.
Uh-oh, this is not good. We have to dismiss quickly or our TT won’t be concluded in a good manner as it always was. Thus several of us have to talk to those attending at once.
Disperse quietly, regroup at a certain spot if they wish to join our touge night run, or return to their place. TT is dismissed!
11:45pm Regroups at Taman Lela.
With Akat and Abu riding with me, we joined those who were already waiting at the tomyum stall. We have some thick coffee 0 to help us staying alert.
In the beginning there was 10 cars, but after further discussion, 5 of them cancelled.
One of them is Bob who suddenly pulled out after hearing that there’s roadblock at Padang Rengas.
I seriously can’t think of any logic in his action.
Anyway, hope you can join us some other time, Bob Da Builder!
Sunday 9th January 2009 00:25hr The journey to Ijok.
For once I think that I can drive behind some other otai, but with them leaving us earlier, I had to be at the front also tonight.
It would went uneventfully but for the police’s roadblock at Pekan Ijok. Thanks for Madperak who rogered me on the way to Ijok. We had to stop once, mainly for me to inform the other drivers about their presence and to patch my new roadtax at the screen.
1:30am Arrived at Ijok, passing the roadblock and meeting Madperak. Regroup at Kg Kelian Gunung junction. Introduce ourselves to Madperak and friends. Including them, there’s 6 cars. Burnner and his KE30, Am and Sham driving their KE20 Coupes, Kei driving his AE90 Levin and I, driving my old rustbucket.
Burnner leads the way to the peak.
I was left quite far behind with Madperak and friends who rode a fully souped up Viva Avy. Thinking that they want to look at my driving (hentam keromo style), I drove slowly while at the same time briefing Akat about Sumpitan Pass knowing that if I sped uphill, the souped up Avy would have no problem to follow my pace.
At some point after 1km up the mountain pass, we passed something that looks like a panther (Harimau Kumbang) stretching it’s body lazily. Some of the participants said that it was a cat, while others think that it was a fox (?) . Who knows? We never bothered to stop and check.
Going over the peak there’s still no sign of the group led by Burnner earlier. Going downhill I drove faster, followed by the Avy. But this time the Avy can’t get near, perhaps caused by it’s weak suspension system.
Halfway downhill to Lenggong, we overtake Burnner and Sham while Am and Kei is nowhere to be seen. We have to chase them fast, since both of them are new drivers at Sumpitan and didn’t know where the last checkpoint is.
When we came to Kg Sumpitan junction, Am and Kei already parked there. Later I’ve been told that they raced each other and Am won, and what surprises me was that both of them are first timers but Kei’s driving a 1.6L car. Huh!
We have to drive to Lawin since Kei’s car didn’t have enough petrol for his journey back to Kuala Kangsar. On the way to Lawin, with me driving behind the pack acting as sweeper (while I’m being schooled by Akat about internal combustion engine, no less!) Burnner’s KE30 and the Avy started to play the wangan game. Thus the second surprise tonite was that Burnner’s KE30 can sped up to (and I suspect, beyond) 170km/h followed closely by the Avy.
Oi! Korang pakai enjin apa eh?
(Oi! What engine are you using eh?)
2:30am At Lawin, after Kei filled his car we continue to find a place to have an early breakfast, or late supper, whichever you prefer.
At the tomyum restaurant we all introduced ourself again and talk about lot’s of things regarding cars and whatnots. Madperak is one of my PTT friend from Pengkalan Hulu, and it’s so much fun meeting with them like that.

SC's Night Touge Run #2: Akat Can't Take It Anymore!!
4:30am Time for goodbyes.
After our mini TT with our PTT friends (Akat also included as our PTT friend haha) it’s time for us to part.
Kei went before us since he’s heading to Kuala Kangsar. Madperak and his friends heads north to Pengkalan Hulu, while the rest of us drive back to Taiping.
Bad luck for me, while driving I went over something squishy which I suspected was a bangkai khinzir. Damn!
It smells for nearly 2 week after that, and my car being favourite spot for cats and dogs hanging out.
6:30am we arrived at Taiping safely.
All of us drivers are very sleepy by this time. Thank god Akat still ride with me, and the schooling session continues until we arrived at my house.
All in all, this Night Touge Run #2 was more like a trip to greet our friends who came to visit us, rather than our usual training session. But anyway, thanks to Akat and Madperak & friends who joined us this time.
Hope to see all of you again in the near future.
End.

Saturday,
6th December 2008
It’s 4 months since the last time we did a night run on Sumpitan.
Unavoidable, since without other crews participating, it’s quite risky to go for a night run alone at Sumpitan.
Not that we didn’t plan for another night touge session.
We planned, but something goes wrong..and our plan thrown into the dustbucket.
Between waking and sleeping, suddenly it’s December.
Season of people getting married.
New faces…
New commitment. New vows..
On that Saturday, I was invited by one of my friend from Padang Rengas to act as a photographer for his daughter’s engagement ceremony. I obliged with no question, since the person asking is one of the otai’s around this part of Perak state. Since he is an otai, many people came and cooperate to finish all the foods served.
And among the people attended includes some of our acquaintances from Padang Rengas.
Acquainted, as in our taste for fast cars, I dare say.
To cut some long story, Encik Atan provoked them to come play-play at Sumpitan. Most of them knows about Sumpitan, but it never occures to them that there’s people ‘playing’ at such place, at night to boot.
It’s the same with the local Ijok people that never bothered about that touge.
For most of them who knows the local myths and mystics, Sumpitan is not a place to be after dark. Hehe..
Thus, with no proper planning, it happens again.
The time was fixed. We are to meet at Kamunting at 12 something, Sunday 7th December.
Counting mine, there’s 5 cars for the event.
Since 3 of them comes from various groups, we decided to call our program that night Taiping All Stars.
Not so original I agree, but still..that’s the title we decided.
12:35am We Started the journey to Ijok.
We stop once, so that Atan Cressida took over from me. He’s driving my car that night.
Following, another KE70 mutated with CA18det as it’s heart, then a KP60 5K, a Honda civic ‘deadbody’ (pun very intended) and then..finest of all, A Proton Iswara 1.3L in it’s nearly stock condition.
(Proton should take note. Cars made by them oso was driven around touges. Therefore, Proton stop making unsafe cars).
1:15am Arrived at our starting point, but we didn’t even stop.
With Atan driving, I had to act as a navigator. But it seems that there’s a few changes to the road surfaces here and there. Two times we nearly went airborne when Atan run over piles of hardened sands on the road, but thank god there’s no sirius damage.
Hot on our tail is the mutated KE70 driven by Minami (or ‘Mename’ as central Perak slang goes). Lucky for him, the first section of Sumpitan is formed by several high speed curves, so he can use the power from his forced induction engine. And Minami really did push it hard enough until Atan resorts to slide the car a little bit in order to exit the corner faster, and also to block Minami’s line.
At the time we came to the second part, The Mutated KE70 is still clinging to us. But the second section is full of non-stop continuous S curves until the peak, and by this time it was left behind bit by bit until it was nowhere to be seen.
Minami arrived at the peak nearly 1 full minute after us.
With Atan driving my KE70, for the first time in Sumpitan it was proven that in the world of touge, power comes second after technics and skills.

New arrival..

New friends from Kuala playing with us.. From RoyalTown Car Club if I'm not mistaken.

Perfect machine for touge?

Mountain goat. Surprisingly the driver of this Goat can tail Minami's KE70 quite closely since they arrived at the peak both at the same time.
What really surprises me was the way Atan push my car to the limit.
He really didn’t show any reservation, or shame, while abusing my engine over and over again.
It felt like my car was raped..the entry forceful and quick.
It left me (I imagine) speechless, but reality is absolutely the opposite!
Actually I cried in terror watching the blurry images of the roadside passing me, while Am who sit
at the back can’t stop rolling from left to right to left, due to the momentum of the car going
full throttle, attacking the corners without mercy.
That is how we went until we arrived at the peak.
The way Atan drive, really reminds me of riding with Azuri at Genting Sempah.
Thus, I rest my case.
Actually, there’s an attempt by Am to shot some video footage while Atan drives, but since Am was going rolly-polly…no beneficial video footage was shot.
We stayed at the peak for nearly 30 minutes. I guess it can be helped since most that night there’s 13 of us, with most never been at Sumpitan before. We took some photos before continuing our journey.
Downhill from the peak, Atan drives leisurely. We arrived at Selat Pagar Rnr at 2:00am. At Selat Pagar we hang out until 3:00am, for the most part it was Mail (who drove the Iswara) telling us not to sped and left him at the back. I spoke on behalf of us Crawlers, it was almost a short briefing, the topics regarding mostly about our policy on touge driving/racing and the ethics involved, to guard our safety and interests.

Mutated/Infidel?

Standard pose..

Power Of Dreams..huhuu..

Howling Iswara (pun intended) huhuu..

We are a bunch of happy travellers

Atan raining informations to the newbies (that's why I stay away...huhuuu)
All in all, this was a nice trip.
Since most of the friends who joined this time came from Padang Rengas, we decided to return to Taiping through Greek-Kuala Kangsar hi-way.

Next stop, a 24hrs service restaurant at Kuak

Another angle
We stop at Kuak for late supper, then continue our journey back home, this time the Mutated KE70 showing it’s fangs by leaving us eating the dusts.
At 5:00am we (Atan, Am and me, with Am snoring at the back) arrived back at Taiping. Guess we are not the only people addicted to speed on weekends, as this picture can show you.

What happened??? Needs more training kot..?
We suspected that the patrol car understeered while chasing bands of mat rempits, going up the traffic divider island and nearly crash through the traffic light (and landscapes, huhuu). We symphatized, but since there was already backups, we just ignored them and continues our daily life without a care.
End.

Sumpitan Crawlers Trip #01
18th July 2008
02:00hr.
Several month after the Initiates Trip…we felt somewhat itchy.
It’s all because being dormant after all those time, one by one we came to the realization that
we haven’t been to Sumpitan for over five (5) months.
F.A.D!!
Is this our idea of making Sumpitan our homecourse? Nyahahaa not at all.
Collectively, it’s quite hard for us to plan a meet, and per chance it’s harder to meet the plan.
Each one of us is so busy with our daily activities, what with our day job and our family.
So using that idea as our reason not to go to Sumpitan, nobody ever mention about it.
Not a plan, not even a proposal.
None, nada…zilch!.
Until our longings can’t be dammed anymore.
Thus on 18th of July, without proper planning, the return trip to Sumpitan happened at last.
On that date, we’re having our monthly TT for TTc.
The TT started on Saturday 17th July, and we hang out at our usual place at that time, the open parking lot next to Sri Malaysia Taiping.
By 12am, 18th July, most of our friends were already heading to their homes.
Except for Burnner, Leilz, Atan Cressida, Encik Abu and Yours Truly.
out of nowhere and without any warning at all, Burnner suddenly suggested that after the TT we all go to Sumpitan to breathe some fresh air. Initially I refused but due to popular demands, finally I agreed.
He proposed that we need not drive at full throttle.
As gullible as I am, I only half believe that phrase, after 2 times being duped by Kultuih and Tat (lame).
Somehow, Burnner convinced Leilz to join us this time. With Leilz -being a first timer- joining us, I’m pretty sure that I can use that as a reason to drive slowly and stays at the back of the pack..ehee..
So at 1am, we haul our asses to an obscured ‘gerai tomyum’, ordered supper while I brief them some important guidelines for our own safety.
At 2:00am we start driving to Ijok after filling our abdomens with nasi goreng.
Burnner drives his AE80, Leilz his EE80 (basically Corolla LE with a 12v engine), Atan driving his ol’skool Cressida (I forgot the code, but I think it started with something like “GA something” laa) while Encik Abu rides with me in my oldies KE70 huhuu..
2:45 am we arrived at Pekan Ijok.
What’s surprising us is that there’s a roadblock at the middle of the junction.
Fortunately, all of us having honest to god looks.
The RELA (volunteer) officer in charge didn’t ask too many questions amidst our questionable situation, that is 4 cars driving into nearly 20kms of reserved forest area, in the wee hour of the night.
We regroup at our usual starting place, just next to the Kg. Kelian Gunung junction.
I offered to any of them, to lead the pack if they wants to drive fast, but none of them took it.
Citing me as having advantage because I frequent the mountain pass, they forced me to lead.
And that leaves me with no option.
Halfway thru the journey uphill, Burnner followed me quite closely, despite my spoken dislike of being tailed too close.
I’m thinking of the wildlife here. Please support me dear readers. What if a family of mountain pigs cross the road without giving any notice?
But my reasoning is not given any second thoughts.
On the way downhill after the peak, Atan suddenly overtake Burnner after Burnner understeered. Thus my nightmare begins.

Powered by 1GGTE, Atan’s Cressida comes closer than I like.
We goes bumper to bumper nearly all the way to the last corner.
And don’t get me wrong…Atan can overtake me anytime on his bidding, just that it’s his policy not to overtake unless necessary.
Same as the situation while leading Kultuih, I’m really depressed by the blow off sounds from Atan’s Cressida.
I’m punished through and through by Atan, right until we came to our regrouping spot at the Selat Pagar RnR.
3:05am Arrived at Selat Pagar RnR
Guess what, the first words that came out from Burnner and Atan was, “Why you drive too slow??”
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
That’s why I hate leading, huhuu…

Pocho-pocho to strecth out your muscles. Arrow showing Encik Abu studying the intercooler.
To relieve our back and muscle pain, we did some stretching. Leilz even goes to the extent of doing ‘pocho-pocho’ by himself (note him in the pic), while Encik Abu drops down on his knees to look for the Cressida’s intercooler.
We stay there for nearly 1 hour.
At 3am, the atmosphere at Selat Pagar RnR is quite nice. The sreetlights is abundant, the traffic is sparse..and the homeless dogs is quite friendly.

Bleu LEs
We talk about lotsa things, mainly about the dangerous curves along the trek and how to tackle them.
Leilz told us that it’s really a new experience for him, but he seems to like it. The only thing that buggered him was being left far behind, coz he can’t ‘read’ the road since it was his first time ever riding through Sumpitan.

Burnner doing some inspection on his car to make sure that he can smoke us on the way back to Taiping
Once in a while, patrol car runs along the hi-way next to us but they never bothered to stop.
Perhaps because most of us are babyfaced? (lame).

Atan doing a pantomime episode titled "Driving With My Sarong On".

Burnner doing summore inspection to our cars to make sure that we didn't cheat.
At 4:00am we decided to drive home…with a new arrangement.
If anybody wants to speed, they are welcomed to lead. Thus it’s time for Burnner to have the same nightmare as me.
Perhaps much darker…since Atan’s tailing him with his headlights off (by the way Atan at this point was driving wearing his sarong pelikat).
Other than that our return journey to Ijok was quite uneventful, except when us passing a groovy looking unshaven man halfway uphill to Ijok, walking alone like he don’t give a fugk. All of us later agreed that he’s one groovy looking man, walking alone down the Sumpitan Pass wearing only his t-shirt and none other.
All of us spontaneously looks for his feet, and thank God The Almighty, he’s walking by it.
This was later confirmed by me, because I’m driving leisurely way behind them, while talking with Encik Abu about Batu Kurau’s chicks.
Later we regroup again at Kg Kelian Gunung to make sure that all’s present.
At Pekan Ijok, once more we passed the roadblock (at 4:30am!) then we head back to Taiping, to arrive safely around 5:30am.
End.
Sumpitan Crawlers Initiates
Date: 7th Februari 2008
Timeframe: 18:30hr ~ 20:20hr
Who’s who: Burnner, Toyotaburuk, Faizal (Burnner’s Chum), DyS & Cik Abu.
Lokation: ‘Sumpitan’ Touge.
Everything happens without too much planning.
It all started on Toyota Taiping Chapter’s monthly TT on CNY’s eve, when I ‘itching handedly’ (gatai tangan) shows the pics of the touge sessions with Kultuih & Tat to those who attends the TT.
My intention showing them the pics was only to further widening my nostrils, as if I’m more advanced than the rest of them, while at the same time scouting for new partners who’d like to join me “reaching the Clouds and the Rains” at Sumpitan, no pun intended.
Unexpectedly, the next afternoon Burnner suddenly contacted me, suggesting that we go for a ride to Sumpitan.
We met at 30 minutes to 6pm, 3 automobile with 5 people among us. After downing soup noodles, without further delay we shoot to our desired destination.
6:48pm Arrived at Sumpitan.
That time, the first and second part of Sumpitan is a bit boring to us, since it was mainly steep uphill with continuous S curves.
Couple that with our standard engines and inexperiences in touge pacing, we drive slowly until we reach the peak.
6:55pm At The Peak.
We stop there for a few photos, and some of us did some stretching to loosen knotted muscles.
The journey from Taiping to Sumpitan is more than 50km in all and takes about 40 minutes ++.
That’s why we always stop for a break before continuing up the mountain pass.

At The Clouds & The Rains hehe..

Better bring a few Tukang Uruts next time

Adequate space next to the road shoulder
7:05pm Continue driving downhill.
Fresh from beaten by Tat at our last bout several days before this trip, the memories of it flies in front my eyes while we’re driving dowhill Lenggong side. As always with newcomers, we drive slowly at cruising speed until we reach Kampung Sumpitan’s junction.
From the junction, I lead them to exit through Padang Gerus before continuing on the Greek hi-way to Selat Pagar RnR, and this has been our route until today.
Give and take a few changes here and there…

Three Stooges, not!

Rejuvenated!

After this pic was taken, Wan Toyotaburuk repainted his car, and asked to be excluded from this project.
7:15pm At Selat Pagar RnR.
Perhaps Selat Pagar is the mid point on the hi-way to Greek, so they built an RnR here. We are not going to complain since we use it as our regrouping place or final checkpoint through our trips since then.
After relieving ourselves and shoot some pictures, we’re set to drive again.

Toyotaburuk prefers speeding over hi-ways..rather than on mountain passes..

Hanging on twilight

Massage needed!

Merry Men
7:50pm Driving back home, with one more stop at the 2nd bridge.
I always dislike driving in the twilight, our vision is very limited because of the lighting condition.
So we wait until it’s quite dark then we start our journey to return to Ijok side.
The drive back to Ijok is without any incidents. We drive a bit faster since most of us already got the picture of how Sumpitan Pass is.
8:10pm At the last checkpoint.
We took summore pics, and due to some creepy feelings (nyahahaa) we didn’t stop for long.
Just a few chit-chat, mainly Burnner and I motivating Toyotaburuk to implant a 3SGE into his Corona ST chassis further promoting the play-play factor.

Playacting? Duhh..

Toyotaburuk and his -never going to touge run again- Corona ST

Nice lightings I say huhuu..

Endpic
8:25 We drove back to Taiping, stopping at Kem Tahanan ISA Kamunting to have dinner, and then we dismiss.
Afterwords
This is the trip that really begins it all, that laid the foundations for us today.
And as the phrase, we’re fairly new in this game called ‘Touge’.
Our main target is to better our driving skills, to learn the proper technics rather than driving ‘hentam keromo’.
The stage is always there…waiting for us, to gain knowledge.
But it’s better going with companions than going alone, as everything’s possible on the trek that is some 25km from start to finish, and next to no phone lines/signals at all.
That is why Sumpitan Crawlers was formed.
To gain, and not to lose.
End.
* We’d like to thanks for the support from our friends and mentors at Kansei, Touge R, GT and last but not least, EPMC Team B.
Come play-play sometime, but don’t bully us too much laa hehe
The Sifu’s Come a Calling! Picnic On Sumpitan..

The Defendants
Saturday.
12Th April 2008.
Outside, it was raining heavily. I’m bored out of my pants. Again.
12:45pm. Short nap time.
Suddenly my Cokia 1110 rings heartily.
Dang!
Just when I’m quite prepared to go to la-la land!
But wait.
Not many people knows the number..so I picked up the phone and heard Ariel asking me “Let’s go menyumpit this afternoon! Azuri and Apit’s also here with me!”
Walaweii!!
Suddenly my gloomy day turns into so many colors that I can’t stop myself from taking the short nap after all, in order to pool some strength to meet face to face with my mentors, right at our homecourse.

The Picnic Site
The designated meeting place was at the parking space next to the 2nd Bridge.
Due to the much heavier rain that afternoon, I arrived 20 minutes late from the fixed time.
Following plan B, with Yours Truly missing from the scenario, Ariel drove to Pekan Ijok to find a place to drink.
We met halfway down the trek, Ariel driving downhill at his usual speed passing me while I’m going pell-mell uphill, scared shitless if those sifus would scold me.
That moment I got the time to think “Who the hell is this chap, driving his Wira downhill at this crazy speed?”
That ‘Wira driving chap’ is none other than Ariel driving his LanEvo 3.
We both stop, make u-turns and greets each other. After a short discussion, we decided to go back to lepak at the parking space next to the bridge.

Opening Ceremony
It’s really an honour to met either one of them. But meeting these sifus all at once, at our own homecourse..is really kinda surreal experience for me.
We talk about lot’s of things, mostly regarding touge driving, the required parts, technics and skills to achieve fun without endangering ourselves (or others, for that matter).

KE70 Killazz

Friend, Mentor and...

Laying low..
We stay there until the day turns quite dark.
I offered Azuri to drive my car on the way to Lenggong, just to relive my experience sitting beside him while he’s driving at Genting Sempah (pic below)…

Touge With Kansei Dec.07
And also to get his opinion of what’s lacking about my car.
He refused kindly, saying that he wants to look at my driving skill.
Buhahaa that’s really a laugh, since all I ever did was drive fast in my hentam keromo style.
But I’m not going to refuse, since Azuri observing me drive is surely a good thing for me, because then he can give his honest opinion about me and my ride.
We ride the Sumpitan Pass up the peak and then down to Lenggong, driving at cruising speed with Ariel tailing behind with his ‘Wira’.
This is truly an embarassing moment for me, since Ariel The Penjaga Gunung and Apit who ride shotgun with him can surely see through my hentam keromo driving style, even at cruising speed.

Embarassing
At Lenggong, we stop at Mee Kari Lenggong restaurant, next to Kuala-Greek hi-way.
Time runs so fast while I’m with them..meself trying to gather as much infos as my pea sized brain permitted.
Then the meeting was adjourned at 9:30pm, since they need to get back to KL that night..leaving me driving alone under drizzling rain to Ijok, again.
It was nice hanging out with them, even more so because it was at Sumpitan Crawlers homecourse.
As a tribute to these sifus, I present you this limited edition comic strips buhahaa..
